Mauritania is a saharan country for the most part and sahel it’s majority in the south with nearly 800 km along the river Senegal.
Mauritania is also a rich ethnic mosaic that reflects the past of a country to the crossroads to which came people from the Arabo- Berberian North and sub-saharan African peoples coming the South.
The beauty of the country is expressed by nomadic spirit of its people, friendly and hospitable living in infinite spaces between the vastness and time ,between sea the desert and the universe.
Nouakchott
Nouakchott is the capital of the country since 1957 located at the edge of the Atlantic ocean. It’s also the symbol of the multicultural dimension of Mauritania.
Indeed a mixing of different Negro Africa and Arab berber ethnic groups gives this city a unique character in Africa.
Nouadhibou
Nouadhibou ” the well of the jackal ” on the hill overlooking the bay is also the county’s economic capital. As such it has all modern infrastructures.
The Massif of the Adrar
Surrounded by a vast carpet of organe dunes the endless tabular purplish uplands of the Adrar massive cut here and there by canyons of dark rock in the middle of which nestle stony valleys, golden sandy circuses and amazing green oases offering to the visitor o Festival of Saharan colors.
Tergit
This is famous Little oasis nestled between two cliffs is a strongly appreciated step by all local and foreign desert travellers. In fact this small green area has quasi permanent sources supplying some natural pools.
Ouadane
The city of Ouadane is built on the side of a cliff clayey sandstones belonging the formation of continental interlayer.
Climbed by vertiginous pile of ruins the city reveals from far its minaret.
The city is located at 175 km in in the North East of Atar the regional capital of Adrar. Ouadane has known an intense cultural and scientific activity its manuscript libraries deal with all areas of knowledge. The same street has sheltered 40 scholars.
Chinguitty
Ancient caravan city declared among the world Heritage of humanity, Chinguitty gained great prestige by his spiritual influence to the point that it was considered the seventh holiest city of Islam.
The minaret of Chinguitty ( topped by the symbolic ostrich egg) became the symbol of Mauritania called until recently Bilad Chinguitty. Some sources referred the foundation of Chinguitty to 660 AH
(1261).
The Train of the desert
The Train of the desert that has repeatedly been the subject of television documentaries travels on the only existing railway linking Nouadhibou to Zouerate. This is basically an industrial voice for the transportation of the iron ore but travelers are accepted.
This Train of the desert is the longest in the world with 200 cars over a length of 2 km , the heaviest with its 20000 tons and the slower with 15-18 hours of travel for a distance of 650 km there are three trains par day.
The monolithic Aicha and Ben Amira
Ben Amira is the second largest monolith in the world and the largest in Africa.
At five kilometres away we found another monolith “Aicha the former wife” of Ben Amira.
The legend relates that once upon time these two monoliths were a single block.
After their “divorce ” the man Ben Amira left with the two children.
Guelb Richat
Guelb Richat or eyes of saharan
Location east of Ouadane this gigantic volcanic crater perfectly circular of 50km diameter is another essential step.
The origin of this trough is ignored.
The Banc d’Agruin
The Banc d’Agruin sanctuary became a world Heritage site where land and sea merge home of millions of migratory birds the world’s largest concentration of monk seals persecuted since the 15th century.
This site is one of the largest breeding birds in Africa. There were more than two million and more than a hundred species (pelicans flamingos herons)
Azouiga
Azouiga Field Of Average 13 Km Wide And 400 Km Long. In addition to the Majestic Endless Sand Dunes, you will experience a very beautiful and vast environment of a wide Variety of Saharan Landscape
